Motorbike and moped mirrors: stylish companions for a clear view in road traffic

Motorbike and moped mirrors are some of the most important safety equipment on your bike. They not only show you what is happening behind you, but are also an indispensable detail for the individual look of your bike. But which mirrors are permitted, which variants are available and what should you pay attention to when fitting them?

At busch+müller, we have been partners with many well-known motorbike manufacturers for around 65 years and therefore know exactly what is important when it comes to rear-view mirrors. Here you will find everything you need to know about motorbike and moped mirrors.

Find out in the following text:

  • What types of mirrors there are
  • What the current legal situation prescribes,
  • How to fit and adjust your mirrors correctly.

Choosing the right motorbike or moped mirror: What types of mirrors are there?

Depending on your vehicle type and preference, you can choose from different types of mirrors - from classic to stylish alternatives.

Handlebar mirrors: the tried and tested all-rounder

Handlebar mirrors are attached directly to the handlebars above the grips and are suitable for almost all older motorbike or moped models. They offer a stable, low-vibration view and can be flexibly folded in or swivelled on many models.

Handlebar end mirrors: slim, sporty and modern

As the name suggests, these mirrors are attached to the outer end of the handlebars. This ensures a particularly clean, minimalist design. Despite their compact design, they can also be folded in or swivelled if required.

Integrated and aerodynamic fairing mirrors

Fairing mirrors are built directly into the fairing of your motorbike or moped. They not only offer safety, but also emphasise the lines of your bike, giving it a rounded look - perfect for anyone who wants to combine form and function.

Compulsory or not? This is what the law says about rear-view mirrors on a motorbike or moped

According to the StVZO, motorbikes must have two suitable mirrors to ensure adequate rear visibility. For mopeds and mopeds, however, one mirror is sufficient.

As long as your mirror has a valid E-mark (EU standard), you do not need to have it approved by the TÜV.

Installation and adjustment: how to ensure the best view to the rear

The installation of motorbike and moped mirrors is generally not particularly complicated and is usually carried out using clamps, threads or a special bracket.

What is important is the subsequent fine adjustment after installation: always align your mirror so that you can see both the road and a small part of your bike - without turning your head. This way you avoid blind spots and have a perfect view of the traffic around you.

Motorbike and moped mirrors are much more than just a legal requirement. They combine safety with style - and are a real statement on your bike. Whether classic, sporty or modern.
